Alex Yurewich Memorial Scholarship Fund
On Thursday, May 5, 2005, we were all deeply saddened with the loss of one of our fellow skaters. Fifteen year old Alex Yurewich died from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Alex was such a great young man to have around the park; he was always having a great time enjoying life and his family. Today, many young people are living better lives thanks to Alex's wishes of being an organ donor. His spirit is alive and well and we here at Progressive wanted to help keep it that way. On Wednesday, June 29th, Progressive Skatepark along with Ridge Stone Church hosted the ''BIG DAY OUT''.
The family event will began at 3pm and went until 11pm. We featured a number of local rock/punk bands throughout the day along with three different skate contests. There were things to do for the whole family: exhibitions including a BMX demo, skateboard and inline demos, even a moon walk and face painting for the kids. We had lots of food and were giving things always throughout the day. All this is coming together for one reason: The Alex Yurewich Memorial College Scholarship Fund. I have had the privilege of teaming up with the folks at Ridge Stone Church, and they were been gracious enough to supply all the food, drinks, and snacks for the day as well as the labor force. Everyone I spoke with was willing to offer his or her services.
Companies such as Oakley, Emerica, ES', Etnies, Eastern Skate Supply, Noble Skateboards, Vans, ADIO, BullDog Skates, Globe, Lakai, DVS, Eastern Skate Supply, Independent, LongHorn Steak House, SouthWest Airlines, Phillips,Satori, Zero, Mystery, Nike SB, Fallen, and The Lake Arrowhead Fire Dept were all on board.
If your company can help, in any way, it would be much appreciated. 100% OF ALL THE DAYS PROCEEDS will go to the fund. I know everyone will come through for Alex; its the skaters way.
