How to get on the team
I think I am asked this question more than anything else, but there is no easy answer,
so I guess I will just put it in writing:
Now, everybody seems to think we only want the best of the best. That is not it at
all. There are a whole bunch of things we consider, and it is up to you to make sure
you have each of the qualifications. And - believe me - if you are doing all of this,
we will notice. That being said, here is the list of things that I look for when
we are trying to pick out new kids to put on the team:
- You need to be a regular: We want people to not only know but also recognize all
of our team members. Even if you consider yourself a street skater, you still have
plenty of time to be here, so this does not disqualify anyone.
- You have to have a good attitude ALL the time: If you are going to be representing
us, we need to know that we will not see you yelling, cussing, throwing your board/helmet,
not being cool with other kids...the list goes on.
- You should lend your help to the little kids: A quality we will be quick to notice
is you being a help to the up-and-comers. They are always looking for help, and if
they can find it in a team member, their parents will notice it, too. We like that
because the parents will then start to feel comfortable leaving their child here.
They will not do this if they walk in here and see someone freaking out.
- You skate LOTS of contests: This is a biggy. If you are here getting to skate as
much as you want for free, then we would like to see you showcasing your talents
as often as possible. That lets everybody know just how good our team is. In addition,
we want you wearing a Progressive shirt at these events to make sure everybody knows
who you skate for. So, start doing this now. Even if you are not on the team right
now, feel free to wear a Progressive shirt and take a picture of yourself on the
podium if you place. Send it to us so we know how you are doing at contests. Also,
in doing this, we can reward you by putting your picture on the website News page.
This is by no means everything we look for, but is definitely a good start. Do this,
and we will surely begin to notice. We are always looking for that next person -
maybe it will be you.
