Jay Adams Benefit Death Race
On the weekend of February 4th, 2006, Mike made his way west for a benefit for legendary DogTown skater, Jay Adams. This was another one of those events that shows how tight our skateboard family is. For me, it was a dream come true. Hanging out with the gods of skateboarding was pretty cool. I got to meet some of the true originators. Jeff Ho and Skip E. - these were the guys who started the revolution at Zephyr Skateboards. Peggy Oki, Paul Constaneau, Jimmy Plummer, Marty Grimes, Nathan Pratt (all original DogTown riders) long with old pros like Christian Hosoi, Lance Mountain, Steve Olson & Dave Hatchett.
Anyway, the point of the benefit was to raise some money for legal councilling...
Up for grabs were some truly priceless, one of a kind skateboard relics. And, of course, Mike walked away with way too much of it.

This was Mike's first purchase:
Two personal decks belonging to Christian Hosoi. Each one boasts an autograph and each have been ridden by the man himself.
Accompanying is a photo of Hosoi skating the deck pictured on the left.
This is undoubtedly one of Mike's favorite pieces. It is a hand-painted, original design and absolutely one of a kind. It definitely pays homage to a big handful of the influences that have outlined the life of Jay.
Since this board found a home at Progressive, it has become the guideline of the newest Progressive deck available in our shop. You'll definitely see the resemblance.
Also, if you've ever taken a look at the tattoo on Mike's calf, you now know some of the meaning behind it. If you haven't seen it, though, ask him about it.
