Southern Clash 2009
The contest came and went without a hitch. We had some pretty incredible skating go down to say the least. The run of the day was definitely during heat 2 of advanced. If you were there, you know that I am talking about Joey Pellegrino. He skated his entire 4 minute run without falling a single time. And it was far from just a bunch of ollies - he did back smith 180 down the euro, allie-oop 180 into the new wall ride from the quarter, and switch front big spin down the bank just to name a few.
But he was not alone - there was plenty of other people throwing down. Warren Devarennes had nollie big heel over the podium. Ben Hayes had switch 270 lip down the new handrail. Cory had kickflip back lip on the new up rail. Fletcher did nollie half cab feeble 180 up the euro. Solomon had nollie heel noseslide on the new monster hubba.
In intermediate, Austin Gordon was doing backside airs all the way up to the ceiling on the new hip. Niko skated just like he does on all those videos you have seen of him doing a blunt to fakie on the new extension and even a 540 on the big quarter! He walked away with a clear 2nd place. William skated at his normal 100 mph pace all over the entire park. Harlan Smith did kickflip boardslide up the euro. Kai Gause did a bunch of weird flip the board body varial stuff. 7 year old Jack Windburn had his eye on the double set all day and was one of the crowd favorites.
After it all went down, it came out like this in the finals.

Here are the top 20 for each of the two divisions after the qualifying round:
Big thanks to all of our sponsors: Atnalta and Hate City Skateboards, Es Footwear, Emerica Footwear, Etnies Footwear, Fallen Footwear, Globe Footwear, and Ipath Footwear. Next time you are in the shop ready to make a purchase, remember this: these are the guys supporting you - so you need to support them.
Thanks to the judges: JJ Patterson, Josh Butler, and Brandon McDonald. I think they did a good job of putting the right people in the right place.
And lastly, thanks to Mike for making all this happen. It is not easy finding sponsors in times like this, but he was still able to put a ton of prizes together that I am pretty sure everyone was happy with. If you were in the top 10, you at least got your money back in prizes. Think about it: how many contests can you skate and still get prizes in 10th place?
