In January 2009, upon completion of the Elaine Yurewich House Remodel, it was time to start working on a new project. We already had in mind that we wanted to do something concerning breast cancer, but how to go about it was the tough part.
After discussing the idea with some associates, we decided on a walk-a-thon approach. In a nut shell, here's how it worked. Each skater had to find sponsors - mom, dad, teachers, friends, etc. Each sponsor agrees to donate a certain amount per trick. You got two minutes to land as many tricks as possible. After that, it was time to collect. Some skaters had 10 sponsors. Others had 100. To us it didn't matter how many sponsors you had - what mattered was you were putting your time and effort into a good cause.
Skaters Savings Second Base
However, this did not mean that more sponsors and more money resulted in a no benefit for you. We put a HUGE prize package together, for the kid that raised the most money. Syndrome Distribution, Dwindle Distribution, Black Box Distribution, Skatelab Skatepark, FuelTV, Vans Footwear, and Tony Alva all pitched in their efforts to put together the most amazing skateboard vacation imaginable. It didn't stop here either - second place was awarded a trip to Wilmington, NC to visit Eastern Skateboard Supply. Eastern is the world's largest skateboard distributor.
