Skaters Saving Second Base:
Trip to Eastern Skateboard Supply
As promised, the award for the skater raising the second most money was a trip to Eastern Skateboard Supply. But...since we had a handful of kids raise a whole lot of money, we went ahead and let everybody down through 6th place join in. We met at the Progressive at 5:00 am, and headed out for Wilmington, North Carolina. It was kind of a long ways off, but once we got there, it took all of about 10 seconds to figure out that this would be completely worth it.
Now, for those of you that still do not know what Eastern is, here you go: Eastern is THE largest skateboard wholesaler in the world. They have everything, and we got to tour it all. See this picture right there to your right? That is thousands of decks from every manufacturer you could ever think of. What makes it crazy is that this is 2 out of 9 aisles of decks! I have never seen anything like this in my life. I cannot even put a number on how many decks are there. As a surprise gift, every kid was able to pick any deck that they wanted. As you can imagine this was no easy task.
What you are looking at on the left is a minor section of the wheels. Each of these bins would have around 20 sets of wheels in it. And, as you can see, there are hundreds of bins. Again, ridiculous.
On the right you can see the selection of Indys. I bet you did not even know they made that many different trucks.
I just wish we had pictures of the entire warehouse. These couple pictures are just a small glimpse of this place. You cannot imagine how big it is. Imagine a room the size of your living room that is completely full of bearings...
Up until now, I have not even mentioned the skatepark at Eastern. And it is amazing. Just like the warehouse, the park is unlike anything you have ever seen. When you walk in, you are awe struck. The place looks brand new because it is private. The only skating that happens there is done by employees and pros (during demos). It was built by the guys at Team Pain and was completely perfect.
The bowl was one-of-a-kind. You will NEVER see anything else like this. Click on it for the full version of the photo and just look at the detail. Amazing.
The park was nuts, too. I have never seen a park flow like this one. It basically flows in a circle. It has everything, too. But you can see - these are some big obstacles. You had to be on your game to hit some of this.
Be sure to check out the video from the trip so that you can really appreciate all that the park had to offer.
I would like to send my personal thanks to Reggie (the owner) and Jocelyne for making this happen. Like always, they embraced us with open arms. I cannot tell you all that it means to know that your always at our side. I cannot wait to do it again.
