Skaters Saving Second Base:

Money Allocation

It really is mind blowing what happened. Such an easy concept that worked. We took in over $23,000.00 to fight breast cancer. But how to spend it - that took some thought.

First, we were able to hook up Keep A Breast with $8,000.00. The Keep A Breast Foundation™ is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts, they seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.

Next, we sent Grind For Life $4,000.00. The mission of the Grind For Life organization is to provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when traveling long distances to doctors and hospitals. In addition, they educate and inspire these patients and families concerning cancer survival and recovery. Those who qualify may request assistance for travel and lodging expenses, meal, and personal needs. Funds for this organization will be raised by, but not limited to, hosting skateboarding events and festivals, ebay sales of donated goods, fundraiser's, Grind For life sponsors a skateboard team to perform at these events to keep the spirit of skateboarding alive. With our donation, Grind for Life was able to delegate the money to a woman living in Atlanta currently battling cancer .

Finally, the Avon Foundation was awarded with $10,000.00. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992 in the UK and now includes breast cancer programs in more than 50 countries focused on advancing access to care and finding a cure. As you may know, our primary goal in organizing this whole event was to sponsor a team to participate in the Avon 3 Day - a 60 mile walk that raises TONS of money. A group of moms from the skatepark will be participating in the event in October. Details to come...

If you add all that up, you will see that there is a surplus. Our plan is to hang onto this money until something comes up. There is always someone that needs help - we want to be the ones to do it.

As a final word, I would again like to say that without the help from each and every one of you, this would have never worked. I've got some good ideas in my head, and, now, a year under my belt. I cannot wait to start on The Great Skate Adventure Two. I hope you guys will come along for the ride next year. My goal this year was ten grand, we did twenty three, next year I'm feeling $80,000.00.

It is a big number, but with a little help from my friends, I know we can pull it off.
