Here how it works, on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th, Mothers Day, just like those walk a thons you did when you were a kid, this works the same way. You, as a skater go out and get as many sponsors to pay you for the amount of tricks you can do in a two minute session. Say they pay you a $1.00 a trick, you land 15 tricks and they owe you $15.00. Your goal is to raise at least $150.00, that's only ten people. I know I can get 100 skaters to do this, are you with me, that's where our goal of $15,000.00 comes from. Now what do we do with all the cash raised, we sponsor a team of five skate moms with $10,000.00 to walk 60 miles in The Avon Three Day Breast Cancer Walk and then send the remainder of money to The Keep A Breast Foundation. It's all about raising money to help cure this nasty disease and supporting the ladies that have to deal with it. The skater's money will be donated to the organizations in their mom's name.
That's about as easy as I can say it. There's more to it though. The skater that raises the most money along with his (her) friend and his parents will attend what could be the Best Skate Adventure ever. Are you with me…….It starts with a little plane ride to Los Angeles, you'll be there for a week, and you know what else, we'll pay hotels and rental car also. All the details aren't 100% but I can tell you this. You will visit The SkateLab Skateboard Museum in SemiValley, Todd Huber will give you your personal tour and then a session with a couple of pro skaters at his park.
Then how about a private tour of Dwindle Distribution in LA, Dwindle is the largest skateboard manufacturer in the world, they own Globe Shoes, Darkstar, Blind, Almost, Enjoi and Tensor. Your personal tour guide will be DarkStar Pro Skater Chet Thomas, after the tour, Chet and some other pros will take you on a private skate session.
If I don't have your attention yet, check this out. Once upon a time, there was this skater who revolutionized skateboarding, he was the 1st World Champion Skateboarder and is also a great surfer. The Dogtown Chronicles and Dogtown the Movie were both written around him, you know I'm talking about, skateboard legend Tony Alva. Now get this, you have Tony for the day, skating three different parks in the morning and then surfing all afternoon. We don't mess around.
That's right. Do I have ya now?……It doesn't stop here, o-no, How about a trip to BlackBox Distribution, what's BlackBox, that would be ZERO,FALLEN and MYSTERY. You'll go meet the head man himself, Jamie Thomas, take a tour of their warehouses (you will be blown away) and what else, skate their private park with some of the Team Guys. Here's another one for you, Steve Vandoren and the folks at Vans Footwear are planning some type of special event, I know part of it will be a tour of their complex and a session at The Vans Park at The Block in Anaheim, yea I'm sure they'll have a couple of guests along also. Man, I'm getting tired of typing, how about a private behind the scenes tour of Fuel TV in Hollywood, you will also be special guest on the set of The Daily Habit. Alright this is it, the last stop will be at Syndrome Distribution, huh???? I guess you would know them better as Plan B. Let me put it to you this way, the folks in charge said they were into this project 100%. Let's see, I know some of the team will be there. Who skates for them again????? O-yea, that would be PRod, Jereme Rogers, What's his name, Sheckler, Gallant, Danny Way, Brian Wenning, Pat Duffy.
After a week of this madness it's time to go back home.
One more thing, the kid that raises the 2nd highest amount in the fundraiser will head off the Eastern Skate Supply in Wilmington, N.C. You will be greeted by owner Reggie Barns, Reggie will roll out the red carpet and you will be treated to a tour of Eastern, they are the largest skateboard distributor in the world, you will be in ahhh. Then you will meet up with a couple of pros skaters for a session in Reggies private 40,000 sq.ft skatepark.
Plus on top of all that, a FREE YEAR Membership to Progressive, skate anytime you want for a year.
OK, now we need your help, without a doubt The Progressive Family has stood up to every Major Challenge I have laid on them and now it's time for another one. The last project generated a $75,000.00 home remodel for a park mom that really needed it. So can we do $15 Grand in a weekend? Yep!
Now it's time, Call your aunt, your sister, your grandmother, your teacher and let them know what you are doing as a skateboarder and also be proud of yourself for what you're doing.
Come on, get involved, have fun…. Mike
